Episode 112 – Introduction Interruptus!

Episode 112 – Introduction Interruptus
May 13, 2012
We’ve got news… Lots and lots of…

Ok, that’s just a flat out lie. There’s really not much news, but what we do have is exciting. First, gear for kids! Bilt, Cycle Gear’s house brand, has a full line of gear for kids. Everything from classic Fonzie leather to high-tech textile 4-season gear. Check it out. Also from the “hey, this is pretty cool” files, sales of the Japanese big-four are up. While the numbers we have reflect Japanese domestic sales, anecdotally, this trend seems to be strong here in the USA, too. Also, looking for tires? Avon has a nice rebate on a few popular models[1].

1 – please note, this isn’t an advertisement or paid endorsement of Avon tires. We’re just reporting the news.

RD350 restoration project by Motorcycle Girl

Celeste, aka the Motorcycle Girl has been restoring an RD350 street bike. Below you can find some text and pictures about her restoration. Give it a look. Celeste can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/celeste.atkinson.5.

I have not taken any recent pictures but enclosed is a link to the facebook album where I have posted some of them.  I bought it in several boxes and have been doing the ground up restoration over the last couple of winters.  The pic of the entire bike in the album is one that I found online so it is not my actual bike.  Tank and plastic parts are out getting painted as we speak and I hope to get the engine in the bike in the next couple of weeks. This model was never available in the US, only Canada so parts are more difficult to source locally.  Many of my parts have had to come from the UK where there is a cult following for this bike.  Interesting too is that Paul Manson(another listener) has one of these bikes too!

Episode 111 – It was a bit facetious

Episode 111 – It was a bit facetious.
April 22, 2012
This week we talk about the (apparently?) finalized Audi-Ducati deal. Chris is convinced the status-quo will continue being all quoey, while James thinks there’s going to be some change. Good? Bad? Time will tell. I don’t think the guys need to enter a to-the-death cage match to prove who’s right. Probably for the best. We don’t have any mops around the Pace studios to clean up the mess.
Ryca gets right on with documenting the new street tracker build and it’s shaping up nicely! Check it out. Also, it’s like zip car for scooters. Good idea? Only San Francisco will know for sure. We have high hopes for this venture, and maybe this could set a trend for the future.

Episode 109 – Well, that’s just f’ing idiotic

Episode 109 – Well, that’s just f’ing idiotic
April 8, 2012
This week we honor friend of the show Denise Dickenson on her 200,000 mile Yamaha FZ-1. Keep racking up those miles, Denise. We look at some secure storage options for when you reach your destination. We talk about… Honda. Ok, so it’s just scooter stuff, but come on… news was slim pickings this week. We pile on the goodness with a romp through the feedback, drop an F-bomb or two, then round out the show with a GearChic segment on helmets.News:

Episode 106: Nothing Short of World Domination!

Episode 104: I don’t know what I’m gonna do with it but I want it

WARNING: We spend lots of time talking about electrics this week. Mostly because that’s where the interesting stuff is happening right now. But don’t despair! I’m sure we’ll have lots of good old fashioned gas burnin’ bikes to talk about next week.

We also spend some time on a tiny little scooter, yet another Triumph rumor and lots of email.

Oh, do you remember Colorforms? Those sticky plastic things in the shape of a pair of shoes or a shirt or something that you would stick on other sticky plastic things in the shape of a person or maybe a tree? Harley Davidson has given us online Colorforms! You can stick a bunch of accessories and stuff on a Sportster to see what it looks like. The difference is that you can peel your H-D creation off of the refrigerator door and bring it in to the real world if your wallet is fat enough.

This is the Sportster I would build from the available options. Probably not a big surprise. It’s basically a 48 with luggage and a real fuel tank.

Episode 92: Slow down, be careful, blah blah blah

Lots of news from Milan, a little from Pennsylvania and a whole heapin’ healpin’ of e-mail.

Episode 90: It IS a scooter!

Episode 90: It IS a scooter!

This week the guys are talking with listener, friend, and all around great guy – despite the orange scooter – Ryan Hettenbach. Ryan rode along for some of the Pace Podcast Barber Museum trip in September, and recalls some of his impressions riding with a group, as well as riding longer days and longer miles on the scooter.

Ryan also talks about his preparations for next year’s Scooter Cannonball Run, running from East to West in 8 days.

After talking with Ryan, the guys try to discern: is it live or Memore… er… Is it a motorcycle or a scooter? We’re talking about the Aprilia SRV800; it’s got a frame-mounted engine, chain drive, scooter body styling and ergonomics, an auto trans, sport-sized tires. What is it?

Episode 88: Here comes the sun (in a forward-thinking, synergistic Triumph top case), do do do do, do

Episode 88 – Here comes the sun (in a forward-thinking, synergistic Triumph top case), do do do do, do.
October 9, 2011
James tells us about his new top case, finally delivered and installed by Triumph, and how it brings a completeness and whole-life synergy to his commuting and luggage-using lifestyle. (don’t mind me, I’ve been in a lot of marketing meetings lately)

The guys discuss the local weather lately, and how the strange yellow ball in the sky has finally returned to rain down its lovely light upon us all (or some wacky stuff like that), infusing us all with positive energy, and bringing forth new ways of looking at the sky as a metaphor for life. (somebody stop me)

James also talks about the limits of the Teiz Commute suit in the weather, and then gives us all some information on a few of the farkles he’s added to his bike and smart phone, bringing synergy and convergence to…. ya know, I just don’t really know how to complete that sentence without it sounding like a marketing slogan from some non-descript “business consulting firm” that never really explains what they do and charges you $550 per hour for the convenience of that lack of understanding.

So we’re not going to do that.

Because we can’t charge you.

The guys also talk about the new Honda cross-genre bike being developed for the world market. Since the new machine is named after one of the Acura car models, and Honda being a division of the Honda corporation, we see that synergy taking shape in the form of… wait, sorry… I’m doing it again.

Yamaha cements their place in the 2012 US motorcycle marketplace by redefining market expectations with its strong commitment to legacy and the common paradigm, while envisioning a new tomorrow with… DAMN IT! Stop it. Yeah, Yamaha announces the 2012 models.

Episode 81: A showroom full of Little Monsters

Episode 81
July 31, 2011 – A showroom full of little monsters.

If it could go wrong getting this show out on time this week, it did. So… without preamble and grumbling on, we present to you, Episode 81. Enjoy!

This week the guys speculate on the future of Ducati’s 2-engine line-up. Then they spend some time in the shade thanks to the new e-Tint electronic helmet visor inserts. Erik Buell teases us further with another of the EBR Nation videos. Erik seems to be moving full bore; exciting stuff ahead, to be sure. The CBR250R from Honda gains some major after market support. And continuing our trend of Feedback-a-palooza, we have emails and audio clips galore. This week’s audio clip takes an excellent look at helmet laws from the pro- stance, and is certainly thought provoking. Jon also gives us some PDFs to read on the matter. Take a look!
